External Storage & File Sharing

There’s a variety of external storage that’s both available and compatible with WordPress. This helps to free up personal desktop space and provide a handy backup location in case unforeseen consequences happen for your website. With these dedicated spaces it gives a sense of professionalism for storing only what is necessary to the website and the aforementioned backup plan for crashes and revisions. These options were found while working with the UpdraftPlus plugin.

Dropbox

Dropbox12 is a multi-platform cloud storage solution that allows you to sync files along multiple devices near-seamlessly. This is a flexible service which can allow you to transfer files between any compatible device while stored on their cloud servers.

  • Free accounts have a paltry 2GB storage size
  • Many features are locked behind a subscription service
  • Limited security features

Google Drive

Google Drive34 is Google’s cloud storage solution, providing handy user storage while being fully integrated with the company’s tech ecosystem. This full suite of additional features allows it to go toe-to-toe with other major competitors like Microsoft’s Office 365 suite.

  • Large 15GB storage size for a basic user account
  • Convenient and flexible search functions
  • Long term stability
  • Excellent collaboration features
  • Limited security features when it comes to file sharing
  • No guarantee of file privacy while on the Google ecosystem
  • Inconvenient for offline storage
  • Limited preview functionality outside of common file types

Microsoft Azure

Microsoft Azure56 is a cloud computing platform dedicated to wide-range scalability for businesses. This suite provides a huge range of solutions across various programming, IoT, database, AI, and other developer disciplines.

  • Staggeringly complex, a high learning curve required to effectively utilize the platform
  • Limited free platform usage with potential fees for exceeding limitations
  • Less flexible than other solutions due to pricing based on picked services
  • Always-online requirement makes storage a hassle with potential internet outages
